As we get older, some infections can affect us more seriously.

Keeping up to date with your vaccinations helps protect you throughout the year. If you’ve missed a vaccine, contact your GP practice to arrange a catch up appointment.

Vaccinations you need

The flu vaccine helps protect against a potentially serious illness.

Who should get it? Those aged 65 and over, pregnant women, people with certain health conditions, carers, care home residents, and people with a weakened immune system.

You can book a flu vaccination through the NHS Online booking system, via the NHS App, by calling 119 or a pharmacy offering a walk-in service.

The pneumococcal vaccine helps protect against serious infections such as pneumonia, meningitis and sepsis. It is recommended for adults aged 65 and over and others at higher risk of these illnesses.

Who should get it? If you are eligible, your GP practice will usually contact you to arrange your vaccination.

The shingles vaccine helps protect against shingles, which can cause a painful rash and serious complications, including long-lasting nerve pain.

Who should get it? Adults turning 65, adults aged 70 to 79 who have not yet been vaccinated, and people aged 18 and over with a severely weakened immune system. Even if you have had shingles before, it is still important to get vaccinated.

Your GP practice will usually contact you when you are eligible.

The COVID-19 vaccine helps protect against COVID-19, which can cause serious illness and lead to hospital admission, especially in older adults and people with weakened immune systems.

Who should get it? Adults aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older adults, and people with a weakened immune system who are at higher risk of severe illness..

Eligible people can book through the NHS website or NHS App, or receive their vaccine at a community pharmacy, GP practice, care home or on the Living Well Bus
