Volunteer role
To give 1-2-1 help with using the public computers
Time commitment
A weekly time slot of 1 or 2 hours as agreed with the Lead Livewire advisor at your designated library.
Volunteer duties
- Help people with the basics of using a computer, e.g. using the mouse, keyboard, copy & paste, saving work and how to print.
- Help people to use the internet – navigate an internet site (scrolling), using a search engine, saving page to favourites, awareness of safety online and reliability of information.
- Setting up an email account, send and read emails, help with attachments – viewing and adding to email.
- Help to set up the BorrowBox app on devices.
- Sign post people to people’s network resources – Learn My Way, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Access to Research.
- Adhere to LiveWire confidentiality agreement.
Qualities and skills required
- Reliable and friendly
- Enjoy meeting people
- Good communicator
- Good computer skills – let us know of special areas of knowledge e.g. social media or digital photography.
