TinyTalk Warrington has been running baby signing classes in the local area since April 2005.

What is baby signing? At around 6-9 months old babies realise that objects have names (vocabulary). They also have good control of their hands. Vocal cords are not fully developed for words to be understood until 12 - 18 months old. Baby sign language bridges this wide gap. Visual clues (signs) help babies make sense of the words that they hear as they look at everything around them. Every time an object is introduced the vocabulary item is both said and signed. You should start with a handful of signs, including 'milk' and 'food'. The average baby takes four to six weeks to make their first meaningful signs. Other signs can then be introduced, a few at a time. These will be learnt much more quickly and a wide range of vocabulary developed.

What makes TinyTalk baby signing classes so popular?

You sing along to favourite nursery rhymes and action songs with British Sign Language based baby signs. Classes are fun and relaxed but use a structured and educational approach. All Tiny Talk teachers are experienced in baby sign language and are professionally trained. Newborns are most welcome!

TinyTalk classes are an hour long, starting with BSL based signing and singing to well known nursery rhymes and actions songs. Social time follows - playtime for the babies (toys provided) and chat time for the mums (refreshments provided). The classes are held in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The mums love the hot drink that's made for them, as well as the chocolate biscuits that are available! Social time is a great way to meet other mums and ask any questions you have on baby signing.

The toddler classes (suitable for the more mobile toddler approx 18mths +) are great fun too with lots of action songs, books, games, even a parachute! We work on speech development as well as listening skills.

The TinyTalk babies class must be pre-booked and is aimed at the birth to 18 months age range.
