Dementia affects many people, families and communities across Warrington. As more people are living with dementia, it is important that staff, volunteers, carers, family members and community organisations have access to training and information that helps them provide compassionate, person-centred support.
This page brings together dementia learning opportunities aligned to the Dementia Training Standards Framework (DTSF). The resources are designed to help people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support people living with dementia to live well.
Whether you are looking to improve your understanding of dementia, develop practical skills, or gain specialist expertise, there is training available to support your learning journey.
Dementia Training Standards Framework
Understanding the Dementia Training Tiers
The Dementia Training Standards Framework is designed to ensure that people receive the right level of dementia education based on their role and contact with people living with dementia. Training is organised into three tiers, allowing learners to build knowledge and skills as their responsibilities increase.
- Tier 1: Dementia Awareness - For anyone who wants a general understanding of dementia and how it can affect people.
- Tier 2: Dementia Knowledge and Skills - For people who regularly support, care for or work alongside people living with dementia
- Tier 3: Advanced Practice, Leadership and Expertise - For professionals and leaders who require specialist knowledge and skills in dementia care and support.
Which tier is right for me?
- Tier 1: I want to understand dementia better.
- Tier 2: I regularly support or care for someone living with dementia.
- Tier 3: I lead, specialise in, or influence dementia care and support.
Together, these learning opportunities help create dementia-friendly communities where people living with dementia, their families and carers are understood, respected and supported.
