Our team includes Adult and Paediatric Occupational Therapists, Assistant Practitioners, and Community Care Workers. We help both adults and children live as independently and safely as possible. Our goal is to improve quality of life and support people to live with dignity.
What We Do
We assess and work with individuals of all ages who may be living with a wide range of disabilities, including:
- Neurological conditions
- Genetic disorders
- Learning disabilities
- Long-term health issues related to ageing and frailty, including conditions like dementia
Our Approach
We take a strength-based and holistic approach. This means we focus on what people can do, not just their challenges. We work closely with individuals, families, carers, and professionals in health and social care.
After the Assessment
Following an assessment, we provide specialist advice and recommendations on:
- Safe movement and handling
- Equipment to support daily living
- Recommendations for home adaptations (both minor changes and major works, including Disabled Facilities Grants)
- Housing advice and referrals if needed
Important Information
We issue and deliver most equipment free of charge - any item we provide you is done so on a loan basis, and must be returned to us at the Community Equipment Store Service (CES) when no longer needed (e.g. individual has recovered or passed away). CES can be contacted on 01925 946 000 - Option 2.
Minor Adaptations (under £1,000) are fully funded by the council.
Adaptations over £1,000 (including stairlifts) are means tested, so you may be required to contribute or fully fund the adaptation, depending on your financial circumstances.
The means test applies to Homeowners and Private Landlord tenants (not housing association or council).
Individuals are excluded from the means testing if they are in receipt of one or more means tested (passported) benefits. We will inform you in advance if we expect there to be a contribution required.
We perform checks with other departments within the Council, and may peform checks with external agencies such as HMRC and the DWP, to validate financial information provided and to eliminate Fraud.
