Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
When a child learns to recognise different music tones, they also learn to recognise different emotional tones, helping them to recognise how the people around them are feeling. Music can also foster emotional attachment and create a sense of comfort for a child and help them to express how they are feeling.
Physical Development:
Singing sharpens a child’s ability to communicate whilst exercising lip and tongue movement.
Action songs also encourage the development of gross and fine motor skills, such as big movements to support strength & agility and small movements to support hand-eye coordination which is linked to early reading & writing skills.
Language Development:
Singing to young children can help them develop early language and literacy skills for example the ability to differentiate sounds, generate rhyming words and the repetition of words and verses can help a child acquire new vocabulary and concepts. Music helps children memorise information and makes repetition less boring. The more you sing the song with your child, the more s/he will remember the information in the song.
