Are you concerned about your child’s development?
It’s completely normal to have questions as your child grows. The Foundation Years website has helpful guidance, including the What to expect, when booklet, which explains what most children do at different stages in their early years.
You can also pop into our play sessions between 10 and 11.30am on Wednesday morning at the Living Well Hub for a friendly chat with our Early Years SEND support workers — no referral or appointment needed. They’ll listen, offer advice, and guide you towards services that can help.
How Early Years SEND can help
We offer two types of support, depending on whether your child attends an early years setting (e.g. a nursery or preschool). Both services need a referral.
Early Years SEND Support
Early Years SEND Support is a home-visiting service for children under school age with emerging or identified special educational needs or disabilities. The team:
- Visits you and your child at home.
- Works with health and other professionals to make sure the right help is in place.
Alongside the home visits, the service offer welcoming weekly play sessions at various locations across Warrington.
Your health visitor is the best person to speak to about this service. They can advise you. For some children it may be clear from an early age that they need support. If so, a health professional will share that with the local authority through a Health Notification so that support services such as Early Years SEND Support can be put in place.
Early Years SEND Outreach Team
If your child is in an early years setting, staff in the setting can ask for support from the Early Years SEND Outreach Team. A SEND outreach worker will visit the setting, observe your child, and share strategies with the staff on how to support your child's development. They will also support the setting on how to work with you and other professionals to help your child make the important transition into primary school.
